This past Thursday, September 24, our headquarters hosted the inaugural OAA now lecture, a new annual lecture series highlighting Ontario’s emerging talent and given by the current year’s recipient of the OAA’s Best Emerging Practice Award. Designed as both a celebration and a sharing of ideas and experiences, the series recognizes the contributions made by young firms to the profession and provides a setting to discuss the opportunities and challenges faced by young practices.
The inaugural lecture was given by PARTISANS Architects, a young Toronto-based firm founded in 2011. Titled “Resistance, Play and Misbehaviour”, the lecture was presented by Alex Josephson, Co-Founder of PARTISANS and an OAA Intern Architect. The lecture discussed the meaning of practice while providing insight into the design of some of PARTISANS’s project, including Bar Raval and the Grotto Sauna, an OAA 2015 Design Excellence winner. A video of the lecture can be found below. You can also view pictures of the event and some great social media interaction through our hashtag: #OAAnow.
Attended by a wide range of members and affiliates, including student associates, intern architects, architects, and architectural enthusiasts, the event transformed our headquarters into the perfect forum for discussion and dialogue within a celebratory atmosphere. We are already looking forward to next year’s edition!
We would like to thank all of those who attended and give a special thanks to our volunteers Ryan Falkenberg, Sharareh Farahani, and student associates Jocelyn Squires and Martin Malchev, who helped made the evening possible.
