Hi,
I love architecture, and am seeking to learn architectural photography. I live in Markham Ontario. Can you recommend the best path for me to break into this field.
I am currently an amateur.
Thanks,
.... john

I am surprised that Ontario Architects are not being engaged! I suggest the OAA immediately reconsider and take the following steps:

1) Stop this process. It is wrong to: a) spend this kind of money on retrofitting then call it "sustainable"; and b) not engage the Ontario Architects in the process;

2)invite all OAA members to an open ideas contest / competition to sustainably retrofit the building with a very clear and quantifiable goals. Sustainability is as much scientific and technological as creative use of resources, technology, and ideas.

In my view is this can't be dealt with as "another retrofit project". We need to see the opportunity here for Architects of Ontario to show the world how serious and involved they are about sustainability, the environment, ecology, the future generations. This is setting an example for others to follow and inspire by. why waste such an opportunity and talk about "pay back time" and mechanical systems!!

I totally agree that setting time bound benchmarks is essential (KWh/m2, net zero, etc) but please this should be done with a much wider (and deeper) frame of mind. the issue of sustainability, especially for Architects needs much more than corrective measures. it needs engagement, sincere commitment, and one important aspect that only architects have; Creativity.

Lets announce a democratic competition as a first "corrective" step.

I support our President, Bill Bridsell, and I trust the professional recommendation of our colleague David Fujiwara for the OAA Headquarters Building Capital Project, since it is overdue and it can be financed through available cash flow. I do not recommend loans at this time. I hope all members provide their feedback and stay united behind our Council decision.
