Barry R. Cline, Architect/Planner
B.Arch. (OSU), OAA., OAQ.
As a professional Architect, I have the responsibility for the direction and administration of the practice, and in fostering confident client/consultant relationships for my firm.
I have been the principal of my architectural practice for some 35 years, and throughout that period have gained extensive proficiency in successfully realizing the completion of complex projects extending from the schematic design phase through final construction to final documentation. Our commissions have run the gamut from single family homes through multi-family complexes, shopping centres, office buildings, restaurants, industrial units, warehouse facilities, hotels, houses of worship, sports facilities and family entertainment centres; through to interior design and site planning, with client representation at local and regional councils, Committees of Adjustment and the Ontario Municipal Board. After the Ontario Building Code’s “Building Designation System” came into effect, I was authorized to design all building types.
My extensive experience is not only within the administrative and technical side of the profession, but also within the contractual, project negotiation, and code/legislative interpretive sectors. We have dealt with many developers, contractors and owners within the scope of design/build and project management undertakings. Our projects have been efficient, and have met or exceeded our clients’ expectations.
I am extremely familiar with the concepts and machinations of development processes, having taken many projects through the intricacies of Official Plan Amendment, to the Rezoning process, and on through Site Plan Approval procedures.
Good communications and strong working partnerships are critical to the success of each project. Responsibility and accountability are paramount for these projects – from conception to completion. I have team expertise in all aspects of design and construction – architectural, structural, mechanical and electrical; I have put together the best consultants and contractors as necessary for each project, and have mediated differences amongst them as required; have met stringent schedule deadlines; and have been cost efficient while at the same time have provided functional and aesthetic structures. I am quite familiar with collective bargaining procedures and of course the labour/management relationships that are intrinsic to it. My experience is with quality projects - on time and within budget.
For the record, prior to founding my practice in Toronto, I spent three years as Project Architect for Expo '67 in Montreal, on behalf of the federal government.
