Don is into his fifth and sixths careers now. In 1972 he started in education as an audio visual technician and then moved to educational television production. Through the late ‘70s and early ‘80s, before graduating from Carleton University with a Bachelor of Architecture in 1987, he was a medical research technologist at the University of Western Ontario. Following several architectural positional with St. Joseph’s Health Centre, London, Dunlop Farrow Inc. Architects, Toronto and Malhotra Nicholson Architects Inc., London, he established his own practice in London in 1997, Donald Ardiel Architect. His practice is oriented toward public sector projects including research laboratory, health care and educational facilities.
From 2000 to 2007 Don was the lead developer and coordinating instructor of the highly successful Professional Certificate in Project Management Program at The University of Western Ontario’s Western Centre for Continuing Studies. This multidisciplinary program is offered through both face-to-face and online. It is registered and recognized by the Project Management Institute. Don has provided project management, instructional design and media production services for health care agencies including the Canadian Association for Enterostomal Therapy for their successful professional nursing specialty distance education program. Currently, Don is the Project Coordinator for the RAIC/AU Syllabus Renewal Program – Technical Courses Development Project.
Don has facilitated workshops and provided instructional and services for the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada, provincial associations of architecture in Ontario, Manitoba, Alberta, and New Brunswick, Public Works and Government Services Canada, Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, and the Project Management Institute’s Southwestern Ontario Chapter.
In 2008 he completed his Master Degree in Distance Education from Athabasca University and received his Project Management Professional certification (PMP) from the Project Management Institute.
Don’s professional memberships include the Ontario Association of Architect, The Royal Architectural Institute of Canada and the London Society of Architects. He is also a member of the Project Management Institute and a Charter member and former vice president of the PMI Southwestern Ontario Chapter.
