I completed my professional B. I completed my internship in just over 3 years, completing the Admissions Course in 2002; I completed the NCARB exams over a 12 week period in 2004 and obtained my OAA license and certificate of practice in early 2005. In 2008, I transformed Dreessen Architect into a corporation and brought on my first employees, growing rapidly through 2012. In 2012, I merged my pratice with Farrow Architects Inc to form Farrow Dreessen Architects Inc.
I was a member of the OAA Practice Committee for six years; I was elected to OAA Council in 2012 and served on several committees including PIRC, Conference and Continuing Education Committee. I was elected to the OAA Executive as Vice President (Communications) in 2013 and Senior Vice President and Treasurer in 2014; I serve on several committees with a goal of improving member trust, furthering communications between members and the profession and our allied industry partners.

This balance allows us to continually deliver projects on time, within budget and ultimately, with the respect of all parties involved in the life of any one of our architectural projects.
The firm’s project experience includes not only commercial, retail, office, industrial and institutional work in varying settings, but also infill residential, both single family, multi-unit/condominium projects. We have a thorough understanding of the applicable building code and approval processes for the various jurisdictions that our practice covers. Our designs and projects have won awards and been recognized not just for their design excellence, but also for the process used to achieve client success.
The firm has is certified under ISO 9001:2008 quality management system. We are an active member of both local business organizations and provincial and federal architectural associations. We are advocates for the profession.
Our firm specializes in projects with a high degree of refinement for clients dedicated to achieving excellence. This includes industrial and retail projects; secure government/crown agency office and research facilities; laboratories and research/development projects; retail and office projects including tenant fit up, base building and adaptive re-use; residential projects including renovations, new single family homes, multi-unit and condominium development. The office works in traditional design-bid-build as well as design-build relationships.
The firm was established originally in 1979 by Marcus Berns after leaving Montreal. In 1989, James Farrow became a principal in the firm, then known as Berns Farrow Architects Inc. In 1999, Marcus retired and the firm became Farrow Architects Inc. with the addition of Deborah Farrow as a partner. In 2005, I established Dreessen Architect, and incorporated in 2008. In 2012, I merged his practice with that of James and Deborah to form Farrow Dreessen Architects Inc. In 2015, I acquired ownership of the firm and, later that year, James and Deborah retired from practice in the firm. In 2016, I changed the name of the firm and introduced new partners to grow the firm for the future.
