The Province of Ontario is developing the first ever culture strategy for the province. This strategy will set a vision for culture in Ontario, identifying principles and priorities to guide the government’s support to culture for the next five years.
Through the discussion paper (available here)
the Province seeks feedback on:
- The value of culture;
- The ways that people are participating in culture;
- Ways to inspire more youth to participate in Ontario’s culture;
- How government can best meet the needs of the culture sector, and what could be improved in order to strengthen and grow the sector.
The OAA has read through the discussion paper and is disappointed that the word architecture is not even mentioned, only referenced as built heritage and landscape. We believe this view to be rather limiting, failing to recognize our profession as both culture, and a significant generator of Ontario’s culture through the spaces we create.
The OAA is currently preparing a response to the discussion paper, but also wants to encourage our members and affiliates to participate in the public consultation process. Deadline to provide feedback is December 8, 2015.
If you participate in this consultation, the OAA would love to hear about what you’ve shared. Please let us know either by cc’ing or sending a message to email@example.com
