In Memoriam - Roman Wiktor Kucharczyk

KUCHARCZYK, Roman, Architect

On the afternoon of Thursday, February 23, 2017 Roman Wiktor Kucharczyk's spirit was gently guided away by a beautiful breeze on a wonderfully warm sunny day. He had a thirst for knowledge and adventure - traveling the world, climbing many mountains, exploring food, wine, art and culture. Many of his stories will live on forever. His interests in such pursuits enriched the lives of his four children, opening up the world to each in various ways. Roman was a loving and generous father and grandfather. He was a talented and accomplished architect as well as a passionate philosopher. Language to him was more than a tool, rather a craft. He shared his ideas through a practiced and refined rhetoric which matched his stylish dress, often donning a quirky bow tie. He shared opera and orchestra with his loved ones at every opportunity, though his deep love of music transcended genre. He enjoyed a good dance on the tennis courts and a race down the snowy slopes. Roman was a fun-loving man who never gave up on life despite its many challenges. He was born in Rybnik, Poland on August 20, 1949. He lived in Nigeria for 5 years to take advantage of work opportunities before moving to Toronto, Canada where he settled permanently. He never stopped exploring, and always maintained a strong connection to his roots, returning home whenever possible. Roman will be returning one last time to find his final resting place in his homeland. A memorial gathering will be held on Tuesday, March 8 from 6:30 pm to 9:00 pm at Wellspring Westerkirk House, 2075 Bayview Avenue, Toronto. This has been a very meaningful place of healing and support to Roman and his family during his struggle with cancer in recent years. In memory of Roman, please consider a donation to this beautiful establishment. 'That which is you dwells above the mountain and roves with the wind...a thing free, a spirit that envelops the earth and moves in the ether.'
