In Memoriam - William Haas

HAAS, William "Bill" Lloyd (P. Eng., OAA) - November 28, 1942 - May 30, 2016

Bill, of Port Franks, ON, passed away peacefully after a long illness with his family by his side. Born in Newfoundland, Bill was predeceased by his parents, Lloyd Haas and Helene (Wakem) Haas. He will be greatly missed by his loving partner of 30 years, Sherry Cook, his ex-wife Arlene Regan, his children Marnin, Jenny (Rob), Will (Elspeth), stepsons Rob Cook and Sean Cook, and grandchildren Kloe and Cole Nardi, Caden and Kaiya Belisle, Felix and Innogen Haas, and Avrel Cook, who knew him as Grandpa Bear and Papa Chocolate. He will be remembered fondly by his siblings, Mike Haas (Jacquie), Larry Haas (Diane), Suzanne Madter (Brian), Rosemary Lavoie (Norm), all of his nieces and nephews, and long-time friend and devoted employee, Tom Dunphy, who worked for Bill right until the end. Bill was a true pioneer in the multidisciplinary design world. A graduate of Western University, he was part of an elite group who achieved professional standing in the twin disciplines of Engineering and Architecture. A licensed Structural Engineer and Architect, Bill achieved aesthetic proficiency as well as structural practicality and durability in all of his residential and commercial designs. Bill's 50 year professional history and portfolio speaks for itself. His impressive portfolio included numerous highrise apartment and condominium buildings, shopping centers, commercial complexes, non profit housing developments, churches, multiplex residential projects and single family residences. Bill worked with many well-respected developers in London and across Ontario, some of which include Auburn, Ayerswood, Bluestone, Drewlo, ESAM, Grandview, Medallion, Old Oak and Tricar. Billy Bear enjoyed building Adirondack chairs, Munro Lake, perogies, butter tarts, crossword puzzles, family gatherings, jamming on his mandolin, office pranks with long-time employee Oscar Macedo, and family poker nights with his niece Casey Haas (Matt). An open house celebration of life to be held from 4:00-7:00pm on Wednesday, June 29th, 2016 at Bill's office, 1087 Gainsborough Rd, Hyde Park ON. If desired, charitable donations in Bill's name can be made to the David Suzuki Foundation ( with donations directed to Grizzly Bear protection.
