Congratulations to all five Councillors who will serve beginning January 1, 2016 to December 31, 2018. They will join the 10 architects currently serving on Council and four publicly appointed Councillors. The Council sets policy direction for the Association.
As a self-regulated profession, the province has entrusted the OAA to protect the public interest through the regulation of the profession, recognizing our members’ specialized knowledge and the capacity of architects to govern themselves. This means architecture is self-regulated in the Province of Ontario. The OAA is governed by the Architects Act, which is a statute of the Government of Ontario.
There are currently 3,724 architects, 99 Licensed Technologist OAA, 1495 Intern Architects, 461 Student Associates for a total of more than 5,200 people. There are 1747 architectural practices in Ontario.
The Association is dedicated to promoting and increasing the knowledge, skill and proficiency of its members, and administering the Architects Act, in order that the public interest may be served and protected.
