The Ontario Association of Architects (OAA) has appointed Kristi Doyle as its new executive director. She is the first woman to hold this position.

Formerly the OAA’s policy director, Doyle has served in positions of increasing responsibility since joining the association in December, 1992.

During the course of her career, she has worked in a broad cross-section of service areas at the association, among them the practice advisory services, member services and continuing education.

“One of the things I feel comfortable about (in assuming the new position) is that I have been immersed in the various service areas,” Doyle said. “I’m not coming in cold.”

As executive director, she is responsible to the association’s governing council for oversight of ongoing operations.

Doyle, who has a degree in public policy and administration from York University, said the biggest shift in focus from her previous role is assuming responsibility for day-to-day operations and finance.

She will continue to sit on key industry committees, including the Construction and Design Alliance of Ontario.

“I have relationships with industry and government that I want to maintain.”

In announcing the appointment, the association said Doyle’s knowledge and considerable experience will be “a great asset” in moving its revised management structure forward.

The association regulates the practice of architecture in Ontario. As part of that mandate, it delivers a wide range of programs and services to its members and the public.
