This course leads to certification as a Passive House Consultant and provides a Canadian perspective to applying the Certified Passive House criteria. It is geared to Canada’s unique climatic, building code, and materials challenges.
The Canadian trainers are: Ross Elliott, CEO of Homesol, and a 30-year veteran of the building industry, a Certified Passive House Trainer, and LEED-Accredited Professional. Dr. Russell Richman is CEO of Richman Consulting Ltd. an engineering firm specializing in sustainable buildings and is Assistant Professor in Building Science at Ryerson University.
The American trainers are: Ryan Abendroth the Certification Manager and a certified trainer from the Passive House Institute US, who operates his own energy design firm. Graham Irwin, principal of Essential Habitat, a design firm in California, was one of the first Passive House Consultants to be certified in the US.
This course is for building professionals who need to learn the newest techniques:
The program assumes a base knowledge in building science commensurate with architectural training, hands-on building experience, or similar background.
- Learn to implement Passive House principles in residential, commercial, and retrofit scenarios
- Learn from instructors who have designed and built Certified Passive Houses
- Study built examples – including mechanical systems – for each North American climate zone
- Learn about local materials suited for Passive House applications
