True building innovation demands an advanced collaboration between design disciplines. Come out to this pub night which brings architects and engineers together to network and learn about recent experiences in designing ultra low-energy and low-emission buildings. Participants will be sent a certificate for 1 hour OAA CE credit to be counted as structured learning and may self report their participation as a 1 hour GBCI CE credit.

This pub night will feature the uniquely modern Evolv1 building, presented by Richard Williams, Principal, Stantec Architecture Ltd.

About the Building

Evolv1 Centre for Sustainability Excellence located within the University of Waterloo’s David Johnston Research & Technology Park, Evolv1 offers a perfect light-filled home for growing technology or professional services companies who include social and environmental impacts as part of their bottom line. The goal was to motivate, inspire, and educate the public about sustainable design, all within the context of a competitive marketplace. Evolv1 is part of an elite group of 16 projects have been chosen to participate in a two-year pilot of CaGBC's Zero Carbon Building Standard.

Evolv1 demonstrated that a high-performance building can be a market-driven, cost-effective building where design decisions are driven by competitive construction budgets. We used a highly-integrated design process where both passive and active systems were iteratively modelled to optimize value received against construction cost. The solution? A high-performance building envelope with triple glazing, a solar wall for preheated ventilation, a geo-exchange / VRF HVAC system, and a green wall. The site hosts a combination of photovoltaics to make it a net positive energy candidate.

Evolv1 will showcase how end-users act within the space—generating an internal community of creative types to ignite new discoveries that span science, technology and wellness. The building is currently on track to achieve LEED platinum certification.
