OAA ARCHITECT / OAA INTERN ARCHITECT
WORKSHOP is seeking an OAA Architect or OAA Intern Architect with strong design capabilities and time management skills who has a minimum of 2 years post graduate experience working in an architecture studio, 3-5+ years is preferred. Candidates will only be considered if they have contract administration and Revit experience.
You will balance multiple project commitments and be a team member on projects of various sizes, from $100,000 to $30 million at different stages from initial design to construction administration. Current projects include school additions, renovations to medium and large-scale community housing projects, construction of a children's museum, a feasibility study for a new university building and a new Passive House standard 40-unit transitional housing building.
The job will be in-person at our Toronto studio located at 6 Sousa Mendes Street (3min walk from Bloor GO/UPX; 8 min walk from Dundas West Subway Station; secure bike parking is available on site and limited free street parking). We work 7.5 hours per day Monday to Friday starting at 9am (some flexibility may be agreed). Please note that a high-strung, hypo-allergenic dog will be in the office most days.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Working as a team lead or team member on projects from design concept to contract administration;
- Drawing and schedule production using REVIT from pre-design to tender to meet project milestones and deadlines;
- Professional communication and coordination with the client, subconsultants, contractor and suppliers by email, telephone, remote meeting and in-person meetings;
- Prepare design presentation materials and reports to clients including diagrams and 3D views;
- Prepare applications to authorities having jurisdiction for approvals;
- Conduct material and product research as required for project development;
- Perform contract administration procedures both onsite and offsite;
- Providing up-to-date and organized record-keeping, including meeting minutes and email inbox;
- Lead / support on multiple projects at different stages simultaneously;
- May be asked to assist with marketing materials, proposals and business development;
- Adherence to the office manual and protocols; and
- Other reasonable duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- A degree from an accredited school of architecture is required;
- Either OAA Architect license or enrollment in the OAA Intern Architect program;
- Strong design aptitude and problem-solving skills are required;
- Strong graphic skills from initial concept diagrams to final 3D views are required. Highly developed rendering skills would be an asset, but are not required;
- We use REVIT for all of our projects, therefore REVIT experience in a work setting is required;
- Fluency in AdobeSuite and Microsoft 365 is required;
- Familiarity with the Ontario Building Code is required;
- Familiarity with municipal approvals including building permit and SPA is an asset;
- Strong interpersonal, communication and leadership skills are required;
- Detail-oriented with good time management, and ability to prioritize workload on multiple assignments to meet scheduled deadlines is required;
- Ability to self-motivate, to work independently and with team members, and a willingness to both lead on projects and support projects is required;
- Experience working with the non-profit sector and public sector clients including education institutions, municipalities and housing providers is preferred, but is not required;
- Interest in sustainable design and universal design is highly recommended; and
- Professional and respectful conduct with colleagues, collaborators and clients is required.
