Intermediate Architectural Project Lead
Fabrik Architects | Cambridge, Ontario | Full-Time | In-Office
Great architecture takes more than great design. It takes people who know how to bring it to life.
At Fabrik Architects, we're looking for an experienced Intermediate Architectural Project Lead who is ready to take ownership, solve problems, and help bring great projects from concept through construction.
If you're someone who enjoys both the creative and technical sides of architecture, can confidently coordinate a team of consultants, and takes pride in seeing a project through to completion, we'd love to meet you.
Who We Are
Founded in 2018, Fabrik Architects is a growing architectural practice based in the heart of Cambridge's Gaslight District.
We're a close-knit, collaborative team working on a diverse portfolio of projects, including commercial interiors, adaptive reuse, multi-residential developments, municipal facilities, and community-focused spaces.
As a smaller practice, we offer something different: the opportunity to be involved in all aspects of a project, work directly with clients, contribute to meaningful design decisions, and see the impact of your work firsthand.
Our studio is located in a beautifully revitalized historic district steps away from the Grand River, surrounded by restaurants, cafés, creative businesses, and walking trails.
We take our work seriously, but we also believe in creating a supportive, enjoyable environment where people can grow professionally, contribute ideas, and feel valued as part of the team.
The Opportunity
We're looking for someone who is equally comfortable discussing design details with an architect, coordinating engineering consultants, reviewing construction documents, and sitting across the table from a client or contractor.
This is a hands-on project leadership role suited to an architectural professional who has developed strong technical capabilities and is ready to take greater responsibility for project delivery.
You'll work alongside our architects, designers, and technical staff, taking ownership of assigned projects while supporting the overall success of the studio.
This role is about more than producing drawings. It's about taking responsibility for getting projects built.
What You’ll Be Doing
Project Leadership & Coordination
- Lead assigned architectural projects through design development, approvals, tender, and construction.
- Act as a key point of contact for clients, engineering consultants, contractors, and authorities having jurisdiction.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary consultant teams, ensuring information is integrated, complete, and delivered on schedule
- Manage project deliverables, timelines, and internal resources in collaboration with firm leadership.
- Lead and participate in project meetings, document decisions, and proactively follow up on outstanding items.
- Identify project challenges early and develop practical solutions to keep work moving forward.
Technical Design & Documentation
- Prepare, coordinate, and review architectural drawing packages for building permit, tender, and construction.
- Apply knowledge of the Ontario Building Code, zoning regulations, accessibility requirements, and applicable building standards.
- Resolve technical design challenges involving building systems, materials, constructability, and architectural detailing.
- Coordinate architectural documentation with structural, mechanical, electrical, and other consultant disciplines.
- Review project documents for technical accuracy, consistency, and completeness.
- Support junior team members with technical guidance, drawing coordination, and quality control.
Construction Administration
- Support and administer projects during construction, ensuring design intent and contractual requirements are understood and appropriately documented.
- Attend construction meetings and conduct site reviews, documenting observations and following up on outstanding items.
- Review shop drawings, respond to RFIs, and coordinate design clarifications with the consultant team.
- Review proposed changes, change documentation, and progress payment applications, as applicable to the project
- Work collaboratively with contractors and consultants to resolve site issues efficiently and professionally.
- Assist with project closeout, deficiency reviews, and completion documentation.
What You Bring to the Table
We're looking for someone with sound professional judgment, strong technical abilities, and the confidence to manage projects while knowing when to collaborate and seek input.
Required Qualifications
- Degree or diploma in Architecture, Architectural Technology, or a related architectural discipline
- Minimum 3-5 years of relevant experience in architectural practice, including demonstrated project coordination or leadership responsibilities.
- Strong proficiency in both Revit and AutoCAD.
- Solid working knowledge of the Ontario Building Code, applicable zoning regulations, building systems, and construction practices.
- Demonstrated experience preparing and coordinating architectural drawing packages for permit, tender, and construction.
- Experience coordinating multidisciplinary engineering consultants.
- Practical experience with construction administration, including site reviews, RFIs, shop drawings, and construction-phase coordination.
- Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and competing priorities
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including confidence communicating directly with clients, consultants, and contractors.
- A proactive, solutions-oriented mindset, with strong attention to detail and a sense of accountability.
Additional Assets
- Experience managing project budgets, schedules, and resource allocations.
- Experience with municipal, institutional, commercial, adaptive reuse, or multi-residential projects.
- Experience administering construction contracts, including CCDC documentation and associated procedures.
- Strong knowledge of Ontario's building permit and municipal approvals processes.
- OAA registration, Intern Architect status, or relevant professional accreditation
- Proficiency in Bluebeam, Adobe Creative Suite, Enscape, or Lumion.
- Experience mentoring or providing technical guidance to junior staff.
- Sustainable design experience, including Passive House or Net Zero design principles.
$60,000.00–$85,000.00 annually, commensurate with experience.
