Technical Lead — Design Resolution, Documentation + Delivery

We are looking for a senior architectural technologist who sees detailing as an act of design: someone who can translate an architectural idea into coordinated, durable, buildable assemblies while helping project teams maintain clarity and rigour from design development through construction.

 THE OPPORTUNITY

The Senior Architectural Technologist / Technical Lead will be a hands-on member of project teams and an important technical resource across the studio. You will develop and produce construction documents, resolve complex details, coordinate consultants, and strengthen the quality and consistency of project delivery. You will work closely with project architects, designers, project managers, consultants, and contractors on projects that demand both a strong design sensibility and a high degree of technical resolution.

This role suits someone who enjoys moving between the building-scale idea and the detail: testing assemblies, tracing interfaces, anticipating construction risk, and finding solutions that preserve the essential design intent. It combines direct project production with technical leadership, mentorship, and quality review; it is not a review-only or purely supervisory position.

 WHAT YOU WILL DO

• Develop, detail, and produce coordinated architectural drawing sets from design development through permit, tender, construction, and closeout.
• Translate design concepts into technically resolved wall sections, envelope assemblies, plans, details, schedules, and specifications coordination.
• Lead or support the technical delivery of projects of varying scale and complexity, maintaining continuity between design ambition, performance requirements, budget, and constructability.
• Coordinate architectural documentation with structural, civil, landscape, mechanical, electrical, specialty, and other consultants.
• Identify and resolve multidisciplinary interfaces, dimensional conflicts, sequencing issues, and gaps before they become construction problems.
• Apply the Ontario Building Code, accessibility requirements, municipal standards, and other authorities having jurisdiction to project documentation.
• Lead and participate in technical and QA/QC reviews at key project milestones, with attention to completeness, consistency, coordination, constructability, and risk.
• Provide informed technical guidance on building envelope systems, waterproofing, air and vapour control, thermal continuity, roofing, glazing, material transitions, life safety, and durability.
• Work with project teams to evaluate products, materials, mock-ups, and alternate technical approaches without losing the architectural intent.
• Support construction administration through site reviews, RFIs, submittals, shop drawings, supplemental instructions, change documentation, and resolution of field conditions.
• Communicate clearly with clients, consultants, contractors, manufacturers, authorities, and internal teams.
• Mentor junior and intermediate staff in detailing, documentation, coordination, Revit workflows, and construction thinking.
• Contribute to the continued development of office standards, detail libraries, templates, checklists, model practices, and quality-control procedures.
• Research emerging materials, systems, codes, and construction technologies, and share relevant learning across the studio.
• Contribute positively to gh3*’s collaborative studio culture and the collective responsibility for design and technical excellence.

 WHAT YOU BRING

• Diploma or degree in Architectural Technology, Architecture, or a closely related field.
• Typically 8+ years of professional experience in an architectural practice, with substantial responsibility for technical development and construction documentation. Strong candidates with a different experience profile are also encouraged to apply.
• A portfolio demonstrating technically rigorous, well-coordinated built work and the ability to develop details that support a clear architectural idea.
• Advanced proficiency in Revit and BIM-based project delivery, including model organization, consultant coordination, documentation, and quality-control workflows.
• Strong knowledge of building science, envelope design, construction assemblies, materials, sequencing, and current construction practices.
• Working knowledge of the Ontario Building Code, accessibility and life-safety requirements, municipal approvals, and relevant industry standards.
• Demonstrated ability to personally produce and coordinate high-quality permit, tender, and construction drawing packages.
• Experience identifying drawing gaps, inconsistencies, and construction risk through structured QA/QC review.
• Strong understanding of the relationship between drawings, specifications, consultant documents, procurement, and construction administration.
• Clear written, verbal, visual, and interpersonal communication skills; sound judgment; and the ability to prioritize across overlapping project demands.

ADDITIONAL ASSETS

• Experience with public, institutional, infrastructure, transit, housing, multi-unit residential, or technically complex civic projects.
• Experience taking at least one significant project through construction and closeout.
• Proficiency with Bluebeam Revu, Revit, Autodesk Forma (ACC), and coordination tools used in contemporary practice.
• Familiarity with CCDC contracts, OAA documents, supplementary conditions, specifications, and standard construction administration procedures.
• AATO membership, OAA Licensed Technologist status, architectural licensure, or eligibility for a relevant professional designation.
• Experience developing practice standards, technical resources, QA/QC processes, or staff training.
