Our Cool Blue Architects Inc. is seeking an experienced, technically strong and highly self-directed Senior Architectural Technologist / Architectural Designer / Intern Architect to join our growing practice.

Founded in 2007 and approaching 20 years in practice, OCBA is an established, family-friendly, fast-paced and supportive architectural firm with projects across Ontario and Canada. Our work includes commercial, retail, corporate interiors, light industrial, hospitality, institutional, mid-rise residential and high-end single-family residential projects.

We are looking for a hands-on technical leader who can independently manage projects from concept through construction while also helping advance our firm’s BIM standards, Revit workflows and adoption of AI and emerging technologies.

Qualifications

Candidates should have a minimum of 5 years of relevant architectural experience and demonstrate the ability to independently deliver projects.

The ideal candidate will:

Be highly self-directed, organized and accountable, capable of leading projects with limited supervision.
Be highly proficient in Revit and experienced with model setup, documentation, families, templates, worksharing and consultant coordination.
Be fully proficient in AutoCAD.
Have proven experience producing complete, well-coordinated construction drawing packages, with strong detailing and technical skills.
Have experience managing projects through schematic design, design development, permit, construction documentation and construction administration.
Have strong working knowledge of the Ontario Building Code, including Part 3 and Part 9, and experience navigating municipal zoning by-laws.
Have experience with Building Permit and Site Plan Approval applications.
Be capable of independently coordinating structural, mechanical, electrical, civil and other consultants.
Have experience with field reviews, shop drawings, RFIs and contract administration.
Have experience with commercial projects including retail, banking, corporate interiors, offices, light industrial and institutional.
Have experience with mid-rise residential and Part 9 residential projects.
Have strong design, problem-solving, time-management and communication skills.
Be comfortable communicating directly with clients, consultants, contractors and municipal authorities.
Be capable of managing multiple projects and helping mentor junior staff.
Have a positive attitude and commitment to professional growth.

BIM Manager / AI Champion

A key component of this position will be helping improve how OCBA uses technology across the practice. The successful candidate will:

Help develop and maintain firm-wide Revit templates, families, standards and BIM best practices.
Support and mentor staff in effective Revit use and troubleshoot BIM-related issues.
Improve model coordination, drawing consistency and production efficiency.
Champion the practical and responsible integration of AI-assisted workflows into design, documentation, code research, specifications, coordination and project administration.
Identify opportunities for automation and more efficient workflows.
Evaluate emerging BIM, AI and digital tools and help implement those that provide meaningful value to the practice.

You do not need to be a software developer, but you should be technologically curious, resourceful and motivated to find better ways of working.

Primary Duties

Independently lead architectural projects from preliminary design through construction.
Prepare schematic designs, construction drawings and permit packages.
Coordinate consultants, clients, contractors and municipal authorities.
Prepare and coordinate Building Permit and Site Plan Approval submissions.
Prepare specifications and tender documentation.
Review shop drawings and RFIs.
Conduct site reviews and assist with contract administration.
Prepare 3D models and presentation materials as required.
Manage project schedules, priorities and internal resources.
Mentor junior staff and contribute to technical quality control.
Lead improvements to OCBA’s BIM, Revit, AI and digital production workflows.

Experience with SketchUp, Lumion, Rhino, Enscape, 3ds Max, Bluebeam, Photoshop, InDesign, Dynamo, Autodesk Construction Cloud, Microsoft Project and Statslog is an asset.

Candidates must have a valid driver’s licence, access to a vehicle and be willing to travel to project sites throughout Ontario, with occasional travel elsewhere in Canada.

Employment, Career Growth & Compensation

This is a full-time, in-person, salaried position based at our Milton office, based on a 40-hour work week.

This position offers significant growth potential for the right candidate, including opportunities in technical leadership, BIM/technology leadership, staff mentorship, practice management and potentially an Associate-level position within the firm.

Salary: $65,000–$100,000+ per year, commensurate with experience, technical capability and demonstrated ability to independently lead projects.
