When a bid list is already established either by a “vendor of record” process or as a result of the owner’s or architect’s experience with contractors for similar projects, an invited bid process can be done as a single phase bid. The advantage of an invited bid over an open bid is that there is a manageable number of responses to evaluate, and an expectation that the invited bidders are qualified to do the work.
