FAQ.21 Does an Architect Supervise Construction?

FAQ.21

Question:

Does the architect supervise the work of the builder and other contractors?

Answer:

No. Supervise means to direct - as in tell workers what and how to do the work. Contractors build – architects watch (review). Contractors supervise workers on site; architects do that for their own work in their offices. The standard construction contract CCDC 2-2020 GC 3.1.1 states “The Contractor shall have total control of the Work and shall effectively direct and supervise the Work so as to ensure conformity with the Contract Documents".
