One of the most important cultural and historic landmarks in Canada’s capital is now the interim home to the Senate of Canada. Ottawa’s former Union Station is completely restored, transformed, and reinvented with new additions. As part of the restorations, a contemporary east facade has been designed in accordance with the compositional principles of the historic facades of the classical monument. Completed in 2019, the design delivers more than a parliamentary building. It is an architectural transformation, formally converting a 19th-century Beaux-Arts train station into the interim home of the Senate, and honouring a multilayered identity of Canada.
