The GTA’s condominium downturn is testing not only individual projects, but the communities built around them. Recent reporting points to steep price declines in suburban markets and significant unsold inventory in newer, suburban transit-oriented centres.
Why are some communities proving more vulnerable than others? Can access to shops, services, public spaces, employment and diverse housing help sustain a community’s appeal—and value—through a market cycle?
Join ULI Toronto and the University of Toronto’s School of Cities for a presentation of new research on building complete communities around major transit investments. Grounded in emerging GTA experience, the discussion will explore the relationship between community design and market resilience, the costs and responsibilities of delivering essential amenities, and how developers, municipalities and transit agencies can make complete communities financially viable—even when market conditions turn.
