As Canada continues to face a significant shortage of accessible housing that meets the real needs of people with disabilities, the Accelerating Accessibility Coalition (AAC) invites you to join us for a unique learning opportunity at one of the most inclusive housing models in the country.
We are pleased to invite you to a site visit and guided tour of Reena’s Lou Fruitman Residence in Thornhill. Reena is a leader in inclusive housing and support services for people with developmental disabilities, and their approach demonstrates how accessibility can be integrated thoughtfully into every aspect of design, construction, and community building.
During the visit, you’ll:
- Hear from those involved in the design and development of the building
- Meet residents with lived experience who will share what accessibility means in daily life
- Tour several units and community spaces to see universal design in action
- Connect with fellow AAC members over lunch and learn how these principles can be scaled in other projects
Transportation is available from Finch Station Passenger Drop Off for up to 14 seated passengers, along with 2 wheelchair accessible spaces. Pick up at 10:00 a.m. and the bus will leave Reena at the conclusion of the event. You will be asked to indicate your transport needs in response to a reminder email that will be sent before the event.
Parking is also available at the Promenade Shopping Mall, across the street, enter off of Clark Avenue.
Lunch will be included
