About the Speakers:
Carol Cochrane, BEs, BArch, Architect, Moriyama Teshima Architects
Carol Cochrane is highly experienced with more than 20 years in the field and currently practices at Moriyama Teshima Architects in Toronto. Her global career has included 15 years leading her own firm in Singapore and Malaysia, where she delivered a wide range of projects including urban master plans, adaptive reuse, medical facilities, and custom residences. Her international work has deeply informed her culturally sensitive and context-driven design approach.
Carol brings comprehensive knowledge to every phase of the architectural process, from early concept design to construction completion. She is particularly passionate about sustainability and had already begun shifting her professional focus toward environmentally responsible design before joining MTA. Her work consistently integrates both passive and active sustainable strategies.
Currently, Carol is serving as the Project Manager for the landmark Poplar Road Junior Public School project in Scarborough. This is the Toronto District School Board’s first mass timber school and will provide a dynamic and healthy learning environment and function as a vital community hub. With its innovative mass timber structure and high-efficiency mechanical systems, the project will set a precedent for future educational facilities in Ontario.
Will Klassen, B.A.S., M.Arch., OAA, MRAIC, Associate, Moriyama Teshima Architects
Will Klassen is an accomplished architect with over fifteen years of experience delivering innovative, sustainable, and community-focused projects in Canada. With a particular passion for mass timber construction, he has become an advocate for advancing the use of this renewable material across educational, institutional, and residential developments. He is currently serving as the Project Architect for a 12-storey mass timber housing development in the City of Oshawa, where his expertise is helping to realize one of the region's most ambitious examples of low-carbon urban development.
Will played a key role on the Limberlost Place project team, a 10-storey mass timber academic building on Toronto’s waterfront for George Brown College. His experience in higher education also includes his role as Senior Designer on the Sheridan College Hazel McCallion Campus Student and Athletic Centre.
Throughout his career, Will has demonstrated a deep commitment to enhancing learning environments through thoughtful, sustainable design. He has extensive expertise in the childcare and elementary school sectors, having served as Senior Designer, Project Manager, and Planner on numerous public school projects including Poplar Road Public School, John McCrae Public School, Keele Street Junior Public School, and the Holy Trinity Catholic Elementary School. His approach prioritizes inspiring spaces that support student well-being with a growing focus on the integration of mass timber as a structural solution that brings both biophilic benefits as well as a reduced environmental impact to educational settings.
