LWPAC is the Architect for 230 Royal York, a 9-storey mass timber rental housing project currently under construction in Etobicoke. This presentation will share insights and lessons learned from an approach to creating prefabricated mass timber building systems for mid to high rise housing as a scalable solution. LWPAC has been working with Intelligent City, which it spun off in 2008, to create CSA certified mass timber building systems that are manufactured using advanced robotics based on the Platforms for Life technology. Oliver Lang is the co-founder of both companies.

Oliver Lang is the Co-founder and Principal of LWPAC Architects, an award-winning architectural firm based in Vancouver, BC since 1999. LWPAC is recognized for its commitment to innovation in housing, low-carbon construction, prefab mass timber, and the creation of meaningful cultural and urban spaces. The firm has received numerous national and international accolades, including a Governor General’s Medal in Architecture, and Oliver has been named a Fellow of the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada.

In 2008, Oliver co-founded Intelligent City, a venture spun out of LWPAC that is now at the forefront of transforming the construction industry toward mid- and high-rise mass timber buildings. Intelligent City integrates advanced software, robotics, and CSA-certified mass timber systems into a unified product and technology platform—enabling scalable, sustainable, and cost-effective urban housing solutions. Oliver served as CEO for 17 years and currently holds the roles of Chief Product Officer and Board Director.

LWPAC Architects and Intelligent City continue to collaborate on a wide range of integrated projects.
With over 30 years of experience, Oliver has provided leadership across architecture, engineering, urbanism, and technology development. His entrepreneurial work is focused on industrialized urban housing, climate-responsive design, and innovation in the building sector. He holds degrees from Columbia University (MSc.AAD) and TU Berlin (Dipl.-Ing. Arch.), and completed graduate studies at ETSA Barcelona.
