COURSE DESCRIPTION
The first two parts of this series looked in detail at the CISC AESS Category System and its applications to a range of projects. In this webinar we will examine the use of AESS in more challenging projects, from the perspective of the inclusion of items such as large castings, curved steel, tension elements and eccentric geometries. The projects will be described in terms of the appropriate choices in the AESS Category system and how their detailing is either as a result of the category choice or leads to category choices. The majority of the cases have been designed to AESS Categories 3, 4 and Custom. The webinar will stress the appropriate application of high level categories to these types of projects. The projects showcased will include Canadian as well as International examples.
These new uses of steel require a different approach to design, one that is reflected in recently established AESS document series created by CISC (The Canadian Institute of Steel Construction) and the speaker’s recent book “Understanding Steel Design: An Architectural Design Manual” and her upcoming book “Architecturally Exposed Structural Steel: Specifications, Connections, Details” both published by Birkhäuser.
