New Accessibility Changes to the Building Code (North Bay)

New Accessibility Changes to the Building Code:

Accessibility is now an integral aspect of socially responsible built environments. This seminar will explore the onset of accessibility regulations that improve an acceptable baseline in Ontario. The speakers will provide attendees with an understanding of the AODA Design of Public Spaces Standard and the changes to the OBC-Section 3.8, Barrier-Free Design requirements. The new legislative changes enhance minimum levels of accessibility for new construction and existing properties that are to be extensively renovated.

This session will include an in-depth review of the following revised requirements:

  • Barrier-Free Pedestrian Entrances
  • Power Door Operators
  • Barrier-Free Access to All Other Floor Areas
  • Barrier-Free Path Dimensions
  • Visitable Suites in Apartment Buildings
  • Hotels and Motels
  • Emergency Power
  • Visual Smoke Alarms
  • Visual Signal Devices for Fire Alarm and Detection Systems
  • Universal Toilet Rooms and Other Washrooms
  • Access to Pools and Spas
  • Adaptable Seating
  • Renovations

This session will focus on new requirements and participants are expected to have a basic understanding of the accessibility requirements of the current Ontario Building Code. Links to on-line resources, such as a line-by-line annotated version of the changes will be provided.
