Sustainable Waterloo Region, in partnership with Natural Resources Canada and Building Knowledge Canada, is presenting a practical workshop for builders and housing-sector professionals on Ontario SB-12, future code readiness, and cost-effective design strategies.

Builders are being asked to meet today’s Ontario requirements while preparing for the next round of code changes. This session is designed to help you get ahead of that curve without overbuilding, overcomplicating, or guessing. Attendees will participate in a simulated Integrated Design Process (IDP).

What you will get out of it:

• A plain-language read on where Ontario code is going
How SB-12 fits with the National Building Code and what harmonization could mean for future housing requirements.
• Practical compliance strategies for real Ontario homes
What design changes actually move the needle, and which ones may not be worth the cost.
• A builder-focused look at cost trade-offs
Compare upgrade packages, construction impacts, and cost-effective pathways before they show up on your permits.
•  A chance to pressure-test options with peers
Work through a local archetype home in a practical design charrette format.
• Early exposure to LEEP tools
See how the Code Compliance Navigator and Cost Navigator tools can help compare options, understand code pathways, and support better design decisions.
• Clear takeaways you can use on your next project
Leave with a better sense of what to build now, what to watch for next, and how to avoid being caught off guard by future code changes.
