Architecture begins with connection: between people and place, between memory and possibility, between the spaces we inherit and the places we imagine. This year’s Spotlight on Architecture invites us to look beyond walls and structures to the invisible networks that make a neighbourhood a community—a bridge that brings people together, a street that becomes a gathering place, a home that holds generations of memory.
Across five films, we encounter places in transition and the people who give them meaning, revealing how design and the built environment can shape belonging, identity, opportunity, and loss. These stories ask us to consider not only what we build, but for whom, and what we risk losing when the places that connect us disappear. Together, they remind us that architecture is never simply about buildings; it is about the relationships, stories, and shared experiences that unfold within and between them.
This 13th annual Spotlight on Architecture celebrates the power of place—and our collective ability to imagine, protect, and create spaces where communities can thrive.
