Brampton’s First Mass-Timber Residential Building Tops Out

Peel Region, the City of Brampton, and project partners recently celebrated the topping out of Basswood Senior Residences, a 198-unit affordable seniors housing project on Main Street in Brampton, Ontario.

The milestone, celebrated on June 8, 2026, marks the completion of the building’s timber structure as construction continues toward the project being complete in early 2028.

Designed by Kasian Architecture, with structural engineering by Entuitive and sustainability consulting by Quasar/Pratus, Basswood is Brampton’s first mass timber residential building. The hybrid structure features a concrete first storey and eight residential storeys constructed using cross-laminated timber (CLT), with exposed timber elements incorporated through an approved alternative solution.

The project is targeting Net Zero Emissions and Zero Carbon Building v4 certification through features including a geothermal system, high-performance envelope, solar-ready rooftop infrastructure, reduced window-to-wall ratio, and a low-carbon structural system.
