Saturday, September 30 marks the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, in direct response to one of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s 94 Calls to Action. As this year’s date falls on the weekend, members and practices are encouraged to pause for reflection on the Friday or Monday. (As part of its five-year Strategic Plan, the OAA has also committed to ongoing steps toward Reconciliation.)
The Royal Architectural Institute of Canada (RAIC) is offering a free, two-part webinar series—“History and Context” and “Relationships with the Land Through Architecture and Design”—on September 26 and 27, funded in part by the federal government.
Also of related interest, the OAA’s upcoming Highlights of Sudbury one-day virtual Conference includes the sessions, “Appropriate or Appropriation: Deep Collaboration with Indigenous Practitioners” presented by architect KaaSheGaaBaaWeak | Eladia Smoke, as well as “Designing for Dignity in Canada’s Most Remote Communities” by architects Wayne Olson and Justin Leclair, and Pitseolak Pfeifer of Inuit Solutions.
