Humber Lakeshore Campus Cultural Hub Phase 2 Construction Progresses

At Humber Polytechnic’s Lakeshore Campus in South Etobicoke, the Humber Cultural Hub is transforming the northwest corner of their site at 3199 Lake Shore Boulevard West, west of Kipling Avenue. Designed by Diamond Schmitt Architects, its irregular footprint fits between older campus buildings and their athletics grounds, adding academic, residential, and cultural facilities for a student population that has more than doubled over the past decade. When UrbanToronto last covered the project in April, 2023, work focused on Phase 1’s hybrid structure: a concrete podium and deep steel transfer system supporting five storeys of mass-timber residence framing.

The eight-storey first phase opened in September, 2024, housing 336 student beds. Phase 2 has since progressed from the Spring 2025 demolition of Building A to structural-steel erection, enclosure, and glazing. The three-storey addition will contain a 500-seat Performance Hall, film studios, classrooms, a Comedy Cabaret, an Indigenous-themed classroom, and an informal interior amphitheatre. Its all-electric systems incorporate geothermal energy and rooftop solar generation.
