As Building Code changes are brought into force, the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing (MMAH) provides updates so those in the design and construction industry, as well as the public, can be made aware of the changes. There is also a consultation with a mid-August deadline.
Consultation on Reducing Regulatory Burden in Ontario's Building Code
The Ministry is currently seeking feedback on Ontario’s Building Code Review to identify ways to reduce unnecessary costs, delays, complexity, and administrative burden, while maintaining health, safety, accessibility, and performance outcomes. Support development of four-storey townhouses
The Ministry has made changes under Part 3 of Ontario’s Building Code to remove design constraints for four-storey non-stacked townhouses, allowing their construction without the need for alternative solutions, while maintaining appropriate safety standards. 2024 Ontario Building Code Errata Amendment
The Ministry has made amendments to the Building Code Act in order to clarify and reinforce that municipalities cannot establish or enforce construction standards that differ from or exceed Building Code requirements.
