A former bank turned boutique hotel in the heart of downtown Brockville was one of nine architectural projects honoured with an award at Queen’s Park this week.
Known by its address, 48 King West, the hotel project earned a Queen’s Park Picks award for developer and designer Rob Thompson, designer Brandy Gould, renovation architect Cora Lia Taraciuk and the architects W. & W.R.L. Blackwell for the original 1922 TD Bank building.
“It was a surprise to learn that we were even nominated,” let alone that they won, Thompson said Wednesday, recalling how they learned of the honour in late summer.
For the 11th consecutive year, the Ontario Association of Architects (OAA), which regulates architecture in the province, invited MPPs to nominate a building in their riding that “highlights the community’s unique architectural heritage, celebrates the rich legacy of architecture in Ontario, and aligns with this year’s theme, Collaboration Powering Innovation,” the association wrote.
