Survey Seeks Responses on Parenthood in Architecture Practice Across Canada

Building Equality in Architecture Calgary (BEAC) is leading a national Canadian research initiative examining how parental leave, caregiving responsibilities, and return-to-work transitions impact retention, career progression, and long-term sustainability within architectural practice.

Parenthood + Practice: National Survey of Canadian Architects is being conducted in collaboration with the University of Calgary School of Architecture, Planning and Landscape and the University of Calgary Department of Psychology, with support from Calgary Municipal Land Corporation.

The project has received funding support and ethics approval and aims to contribute to the development of Canada’s first sector-specific, evidence-based resource on parenthood in architecture.

The survey will close on June 30, 2026.
