Submit Your Indication of Interest by October 17, 2025

Volunteers are important to the work of the OAA, with a diversity of voices, opinions, skills, and knowledge critical to the decision-making process. Until October 17, the Association is welcoming applications for seven committees with vacancies for the 2026–2028 term:

OAA Council will make appointments at its November 28 meeting, with Association staff reaching out to successful candidates early in the new year.

The Association recognizes the inherent benefit of equity, diversity, and inclusion; it encourages the active participation of members in its volunteer opportunities, and commits to having committees and task groups representative of the profession now, and in the future.

Communications and Public Education Committee

 CPEC provides oversight and advice on public education and outreach activities. More specifically, it focuses its efforts to advance the public’s understanding and recognition that architecture is integral to the quality of life and well-being of society as experienced through a sustainable, resilient, and durable built environment.

Among its wider responsibilities, CPEC offers specific advice and recommendations to Council in relation to the OAA Conference location and the Association’s awards programs, while also evaluating and approving applications submitted under the Special Project Funding outreach program for the Local Architectural Societies and the Public Awareness Funding program.

Architects, Licensed Technologists, interns, and students who are interested in joining the Committee for a three-year term should fill out an Indication of Interest form and send it, along with a current CV, to communications@oaa.on.ca  with “CPEC Application” in the subject header. The deadline is October 17.

Complaints Committee

The Complaints Committee is seeking licensed OAA members to begin a three-year term in January. This statutory body, established under the Architects Act, R.S.O. 1990, c. A. 26, s. 29, considers and investigates complaints made by the public or members of the Association regarding the conduct, competency, or actions of any OAA member or holder of a certificate of practice (CoP) or a temporary licence.

The Complaints Committee assembles as required, with the majority of meetings held via the virtual Zoom platform. For each matter under consideration, the committee is divided into panels. All panel members are expected to review the prepared case documents prior to the meeting and actively participate in deliberations. These deliberations determine if the case is to be dismissed, referred to the Discipline Committee, or receive remedial action, as appropriate. All Complaints Committee matters are strictly confidential. A full day of training is provided each year, and attendance at the training is mandatory.

Those interested in joining the Committee must fill out an Indication of Interest form and send it, along with a current CV, to complaints@oaa.on.ca with “Complaints Committee Application” in the subject header. The deadline is October 17. Several years of experience in a broad range of architectural activities is ideal.

To be eligible to apply for a position on the Complaints Committee, members must:

  • be in good standing with the OAA, in accordance with Section 4(2) of R.R.O. 1990, Regulation 27 and in compliance with the OAA’s mandatory Continuing Education Program;
  • not be the subject of a current Registrar’s Investigation, Complaint, or Discipline matter by any professional regulator;
  • not have been found guilty of professional misconduct within the last 10 years by any professional regulator;
  • not be the subject of any remedial action pursuant to section 30(2)(c) of the Act within the last five years (e.g. caution, undertaking, etc.) by the Complaints Committee; and
  • not have been the subject of more than two remedial actions and/ or findings of professional misconduct.

Experience Requirements Committee

A statutory body established under Section 13 of the Architects Act, the ERC reviews architectural experience for those applicants who request a review, or that are referred by the Registrar.

It is empowered to determine whether applicants have met the experience requirements prescribed by the regulations. These legislated requirements are specific to the standards of skill and knowledge considered necessary for the practice of architecture in Ontario.

Architects interested in joining the Committee must fill out an Indication of Interest form and send it, along with a current CV, to officeoftheregistrar@oaa.on.ca with “Experience Requirements Committee Application” in the subject header. The deadline is October 17.

Finance & Audit Committee

The Finance & Audit Committee is responsible for the oversight of accounting policies and internal controls in the review of the annual operating and capital budget prior to approval by Council, as well as the annual financial audit process. In addition, this Committee ensures OAA issues financial statements that are balanced and present a reasonable assessment of the Association's financial position.

The OAA is currently seeking one OAA licensed member with experience in business and financial management. This opportunity allows for sharing of knowledge and expertise throughout the process to make a positive contribution to decisions affecting the architectural community.

The F&A Committee meets with the Association’s auditors and staff three times a year—once to discuss the auditor’s work plan, once to review the auditor’s findings before the financial statements are presented to Council, and once to review the draft Budget prior to Council approval.

Expressions of interest are being sought from OAA licensed members who would like to be considered for a two-year term commencing December 2025. Fill out an Indication of Interest form and send it, along with a current CV, to finance@oaa.on.ca with “F&A Committee Application” in the header. The deadline is October 17

Policy Advisory Coordination Team

PACT coordinates the means in which to address specific issues and concerns that are political in nature (i.e. requiring discussion with various levels of governments). It identifies emerging issues in the design/construction industry specifically related to the practice of architecture in Ontario and coordinates the advancement of those issues to ensure the public and the profession have fair and transparent conditions in which to operate.

PACT coordinates OAA Committees' work toward achieving maximum effectiveness through the monitoring of priories and inter-communication. It identifies methods of gathering information about issues, advancing concerns and initiatives to governments and the membership.

The Committee meets six to eight times per year at the OAA Headquarters or virtually. Architects and Licensed Technologists who would like to be considered for a three-year term on PACT, beginning in January 2026, must fill out an Indication of Interest form and send it, along with a current CV, to policy@oaa.on.ca with “PACT Application” in the subject header. The deadline is October 17.

Practice Resource Committee

The PRC is a standing committee that reviews regulatory and business-related issues that impact day-to-day architectural practice. This includes material for OAA contracts,  Practice Tips, and other practice matters/documents with a view to “best practices.” It also fulfils the role and responsibility of the Practice Review Committee, which is required to oversee the administration of the OAA’s Practice Consultation Services program in accordance with Section 52 of Regulation 27 under the Architects Act.

First-hand experience in a broad range of architectural practice activities provides the appropriate background for the committee’s work. Six meetings a year are held at OAA Headquarters or virtually, along with email correspondence and use of online collaborative tools for projects.

OAA licensed members who would like to be considered for a term on PRC, beginning in January 2026, must fill out an Indication of Interest form and send it, along with a current CV, to practiceadvisor@oaa.on.ca with “Practice Resource Committee Application” in the subject header. The deadline is October 17.

Registration Committee

When an applicant requires a hearing by the Registration Committee in accordance with Section 25 of the Architects Act, this statutory committee appoints a time for, gives notice of, and holds the hearing. A panel of the Committee presides over a registration hearing as an impartial judge, determining whether the applicant meets the requirements and qualifications of the Act and the regulations and will engage in the practice of architecture with competence and integrity.

The Registration Committee is seeking Architects to join in January 2026 for a three-year term. Assembling as needed, the panel does not hold regular meetings. Training by outside legal counsel is provided to ensure members are well-informed about the hearing procedures. To be considered, fill out an Indication of Interest form and send it, along with a current CV, to officeoftheregistrar@oaa.on.ca with “Registration Committee Application” in the subject header. The deadline is October 17.
