AZURE’s much-anticipated Human/Nature conference on climate change adaptation in architecture and design will return on October 29 & 30.
Building on the success of last year's inaugural edition, Human/Nature will bring together leading local and international experts and innovators for two days of inspiration, thought leadership, and multi-disciplinary knowledge exchange, in a distinctly apt setting: Toronto’s Evergreen Brick Works. A former industrial site adapted into a resilient yet deeply welcoming multi-use cultural hub, Evergreen Brick Works is an evolving exemplar of flood-resilient, climate responsive design — and an international thought leadership hub for sustainable city-building.
Human/Nature is AZURE’s multidisciplinary conference featuring a diverse series of CEU-accredited keynotes, panels and workshops delivered by an impressive line-up of Canadian and international talents sharing proven approaches to greener products, spaces, and cities.
Conference sessions are complemented by social gatherings and networking opportunities, and other immersive events. For the full program, workshop details and list of speakers visit conference.azuremagazine.com.

Opening Keynote Speaker:
David Fortin is one of the first people of Indigenous heritage to direct a school of architecture in Canada, and he is the only person to twice co-curate Canada’s official entry to the Venice Biennale (2018, 2023). An architect and professor at the University of Waterloo, he has taught architectural history, theory, and design in the UK, U.S., and Canada and leads a boutique design practice primarily working with First Nations and Métis communities across Canada. Fortin’s research investigates the intersections between Indigenous knowledge, design practice, pedagogy and speculative thinking, while his current teaching focuses on what reconciliation means for design. Born and raised in the Canadian prairies, Fortin is a citizen of the Métis Nation of Ontario.
